Good morning. Google just taught bots how to shop.

Don’t be surprised if one buys you 14 blenders.

Let’s dig in.

OpenAI
👨‍💻 Codex Levels Up With ‘GPT-5 Codex’

The Bite: OpenAI dropped a new model: GPT-5 Codex.

This model is built specifically for coding tasks.

It’s leaner than the usual GPT-5 (using up to 93% fewer tokens on small jobs) and comes baked into the full Codex ecosystem:

→ CLI IDE extensions, cloud tools, GitHub reviews, and even mobile apps

Snacks:

  • Optimized for debugging, refactoring, and long coding sprints

  • Can run 7+ hours straight on complex projects

  • Default engine for Codex Cloud + GitHub code reviews

  • Uses 93.7% fewer tokens than GPT-5 on lightweight requests

  • Available under the $20/month ChatGPT Plus plan

Why it Bites: OpenAI might be bad at naming things (seriously, how many Codexes have we had?)

But this time the repetition makes sense.

Codex isn’t only a model.
Codex isn’t only a CLI.

It’s turning into a full-stack coding intern that runs everywhere you write and review code.

Debugging in VS Code, pushing to GitHub, or hacking in the terminal,
Codex is creeping in.

My favorite part?

To run this model in the terminal or VS code plugin, you actually don’t need an API key.

The limits on the $20/mo plan are quite generous.

Google
💸 Big Tech Wants Your Agent to Spend Your Money

The Bite: Google just launched the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2),

AP2: A universal standard for AI-driven purchases.

Instead of you clicking “buy,” AP2 lets agents handle transactions while still proving you actually authorized them.

Snacks:

  • Backed by 60+ players (Amex, Coinbase, PayPal, Mastercard, etc.)

  • Uses cryptographic “Mandates” to record what you approved

  • Covers real-time shopping and delegated tasks like ticket drops

  • Works with credit cards, stablecoins, and even bank transfers

  • Open-source and designed to prevent a fragmented payments mess

Why it bites: The internet’s old deal was “click to buy.”

Now it’s “tell your bot, and hope it doesn’t order 14 crates of oat milk.”

AP2 is Google’s bid to keep agent-driven shopping from becoming a Wild West of sketchy charges and rogue auto-checkouts.

If it plays out in their favor, your next impulse buy might not even involve you…
