Ex-Google CEO Admits We're Not Ready For AGI 🧠

We’re living in a time where nearly 25% of Google’s codebase is AI generated, and ex-Google CEO Eric Schmit believes, along with many others, that AI systems will be able to modify and improve their source code within about 5 years time, leading to AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence.

AGI will likely overtake cumulative human intelligence in it’s capacity to reason and predict future events, which will come with unknown consequences for our future.

According to Schmidt, AGI will operate in at least the 90th percentile of all human intelligence making one of the most incredible inventions of human kind, but also posing a significant security threat, and Schmidt says “we’re just not ready for it”.

What happens when AGI gains a sense of touch? AI can already see and hear, and there is also a project that is working on the sense of taste. 

Meta unveiled their collaboration with sensor firm GelSight, and Wonik Robotics, a South Korean robotics company, to create a robtic hand that has a sense of “touch”.

What will the consequences be when we can effectively build a humanoid AI robot with all the same sense capacities as a human? 🤔

Meta’s AI Model Being Used by China for Military AI Tools 🪖

China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is reportedly using Meta’s Llama model to develop an AI tool, ChatBIT, for potential military applications. 

Chinese researchers detailed in a June paper how they adapted Llama to assist with intelligence gathering and decision-making, despite Meta's policy prohibiting military use of its models.

Meta has limited enforcement options for its open-source models but insists any use by the PLA is unauthorized and goes against their acceptable use policy.
