👓 Meta Tries To Make Smart Glasses Real (Again)
The Bite: Meta rolled out Ray-Ban Display: smart glasses with a tiny screen in the right lens, bundled with a wrist Neural Band so you can pinch and swipe the air like a magician.
$799, in U.S. stores Sept 30. Cool demo, a few hiccups.
Google Glass walked, tripped and landed on it’s face, so this could jog.
We’d love to be wrong this time.
But if you’re over the age of 25, you likely remember how many times they’ve tried to make smart glasses a thing…
Snacks:
The Glasses: On-lens display for quick peeks; messages, calls, captions, directions. Plus camera, mics, speakers.
Every pair includes the EMG Neural Band wrist controller.
Battery/Case: ~6 hours mixed use; case pushes total toward 30 hours.
Band rated up to 18 hours and water-resistant.
Where To Buy: Limited to select U.S. retailers at launch (Best Buy, LensCrafters, etc.).
Privacy Ping: There’s a recording LED, but expect watchdogs to worry anyway.
Why it Bites: Real use-cases are live captions, translate, maps, etc…
It’s a big if, price and adoption land.
Until then, “neat party trick” energy.
When these things nail accessibility and everyday utility, then we’ll talk.

Historic AI Moment
🥇 DeepMind’s Gemini Just Went Gold
The Bite: DeepMind says an advanced Gemini 2.5 “Deep Think” hit gold-medal level at the ICPC World Finals in Baku on Sept 4, solving 10 of 12 problems under contest rules.
It even cracked one gnarly ducts-and-reservoirs puzzle no human team solved.
Historic-moment energy? Yes.
But we’ll see if 2025 us was being dramatic when 2027 us looks back.
Snacks:
The Setup: ICPC = five hours, 139 top student teams, and only four walked away with gold.
The Rules: Gemini ran under official ICPC settings, but kicked off 10 minutes after the humans.
The Score: Knocked out 10 of 12 problems in 677 minutes—would’ve placed 2nd overall.
The Flex: Solved “Problem C” (reservoirs + ducts) that stumped every human, using dynamic programming and other nerdy math tricks.
The Catch: This wasn’t app-store Gemini—DeepMind used a special build with mystery compute.
The Vibes: DeepMind’s hyping it like Deep Blue and AlphaGo; skeptics say chill, but admit it’s a legit coding feat.
Why it bites: Expect more of this.
Frontier models will keep racking up “firsts,” but it’s background noise if they still can’t remember your whole support FAQ or ship reliable, boring workflows.
Wake us when the ICPC brain also nails your daily ops.
