⚫ Darth Vader in Fortnite… But Make It AI

The Bite: Fortnite just added Darth Vader with a voice that isn’t James Earl Jones but kind of is… Thanks to AI.

Cue the lightsabers. And the lawyers.

SAG-AFTRA (actors guild) immediately filed a formal complaint, saying Epic Games pulled a fast one: used AI to replace a union gig without bargaining. Vader’s back, but so is the union beef.

Snacks: 

• Vader speaks in-game with an AI-generated voice

• Epic worked with James Earl Jones’ estate—but didn’t loop in the voice actors’ union

• Union filed to the NLRB: “unfair labor practice, this is”

• Voice actors have been on strike since July, mostly over this exact thing

• Players are already making Vader say unhinged nonsense in game chat. It’s giving “galactic HR nightmare”

Why it Bites: Epic might say they’re “preserving the voice of an icon”, the union sees it differently.

🪖 OpenAI Codex Joins the Agent Army

The Bite: OpenAI just dropped Codex. Not the old one, a new, boss-level version.

Their next-gen coding agent is part of a wave of tools built not to help you write code… but to skip you entirely.

Not just suggest lines.
They take tasks, fix bugs, and return when the job’s done.

Human devs still review the work (for now), but the direction is clear: we’re training the replacement.

Snacks:

• Codex joins tools like Devin, OpenHands, and SWE-Agent(s).

• These agents don’t live in your IDE. They live in Slack and Asana, like full-on coworkers

• Codex claims it can autonomously solve 72% of issues on SWE-Bench (but hasn’t been verified)

• For now? You still need humans to review code before it breaks production (or your soul)

Why it bites: AI coding tools used to be glorified interns. Helpful, but needed constant hand-holding. Now we’ve stepped into a new era, it’s trying to go from intern to senior dev.
