Amazon to Invest Up to $4 Billion in AI Startup Anthropic 💰

Amazon announced Monday it will invest up to $4 billion in AI startup Anthropic, marking the tech giant’s latest move to compete in the AI race.

The last few months have been wild in the AI world.

Microsoft threw $13 billion into the AI ring…

Google tossed in a cool $30.7 billion…

Meta, not to be outdone, bet a whopping $33 billion.

And Amazon didn’t plan to simply sit back and watch the AI parade pass it by.

Now here’s why this is bad news for the folks at Google:

You see, earlier this year, Google invested $300 million in the same company, Anthropic.

It was initially perceived as a partnership mirroring Microsoft and OpenAI’s successful collaboration.

But this genius deal with Amazon makes Amazon Web Services (AWS) the primary cloud partner for Anthropic.

Google’s Vertex AI still doesn’t have Cluade available, and now Amazon Bedrock will.

This indicates that Google's strategy of leveraging Anthropic’s partnership to win the AI race might be facing unexpected hurdles.

Spotify Will Use AI to Replicate Podcasters’ Voices and Translate Them to Other Languages 👀

Spotify announced Monday a new AI feature that can translate podcasts into different languages.

And here’s the kicker:

Using the host’s own voice!

How cool is that!

The company said the feature relies on OpenAI’s voice generation technology, which was also announced Monday.

The technology can create “realistic synthetic voices” from just a few seconds of speech, OpenAI said in a release.

Spotify said it will help make the podcast listening experience more authentic and natural by maintaining podcasters’ “distinctive speech characteristics.”

They’ll start rolling out this feature in the coming weeks and months.
