Meta’s Llama Is Ready For War 🪖
Coming on the tail of recent news that Meta’s Open Source Llama AI was being used by the Chinese, Meta flips the script, letting the U.S. government and defense contractors use its Llama AI models.
Previously, their A.I. was off-limits for military uses. Now, they're backing 'responsible' tech that aligns with U.S. values in the global AI race.

Perplexity CEO Offers to Cross NYT Workers’ Picket Line 🚫
Hey AG Sulzberger @nytimes - sorry to see this. Perplexity is on standby to help ensure your essential coverage is available to all through the election. DM me anytime here.

There’s an ongoing strike by New York Times tech workers and Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas offered to help maintain essential coverage, sparking accusations of “scabbing” (when a company uses outside help during a strike).
Srinivas clarified his offer was for technical support rather than replacing striking staff, but his gesture was criticized for potentially undermining the collective bargaining of the workers on strike.
Tensions between Perplexity and the NYT were already high following a recent cease-and-desist over Perplexity’s alleged content scraping practices.
