OpenAI
🌐 Atlas Joins The Great AI Browser Wars Of 2025
The Bite: OpenAI just launched ChatGPT Atlas, a full-on web browser with ChatGPT wired into the core.
It’s not a sidebar toy; it’s an “agent mode” that can read pages, click links, fill forms, and actually do things on the web for you.
This is OpenAI stepping onto Perplexity/Arc’s turf and telling Chrome that Gemini-as-a-feature isn’t the same as an AI-first browser.
Snacks:
Agent Mode: ChatGPT can navigate sites, summarize, compare, extract data, and complete multi-step tasks.
Native + Account-Aware: Uses your ChatGPT settings, memories, and workspaces right inside the browser.
Import & Onboarding: Bring passwords, bookmarks, and history; macOS today, more platforms next.
Search + Browse: One box to ask, reason, and click—no alt-tabbing between chat and tabs.
Context vs. Chrome: Google is stuffing Gemini into Chrome; Atlas is shipping a browser that’s AI-native from the jump.
Competitive Heat: Perplexity’s Comet went wide and loud; Atlas is OpenAI saying ‘we’re not letting others be the only ones building on our models.’
Why it Bites: We’ve been calling this The Great AI Browser Wars of 2025 for a reason.
Perplexity turned browsing into a conversation;
Arc reimagined tabs;
Chrome stapled Gemini onto everything.
Atlas feels like OpenAI’s “fine, we’ll do it ourselves” moment.
Chrome’s Gemini integration still reads like Clippy with a ChatGPT hat.
If Atlas nails trust and guardrails, the default browser for AI-heavy work might actually change.

AI Gold Rush Hangover
🍻 Meta Cuts 600 In Its Superintelligence Lab
The Bite: Meta is cutting 600 roles across its AI org, mostly in and around its Superintelligence Labs.
Calling it “reorganization” while nudging many to reapply internally.
The memos: smaller teams, fewer meetings, “more load-bearing” people.
So they’re basically saying something like…
“we overhired, overpaid to poach talent, and now we’re tightening the roster.”
Also, the irony writes itself;
One of the biggest AI builders is… reducing headcount.
So AI is taking AI jobs?? 🤦♂️
Snacks:
The Number: 600 — Cuts land across FAIR, product AI, and infra; the new “TBD Lab” is reportedly spared.
The Spin — Internal memo: with fewer people, decisions get faster and individuals carry more impact.
The Summer Poach — Meta dangled multi-million packages and nabbed 50+ researchers; OpenAI’s Altman shrugged it off.
Axios First — The trigger reporting came via Axios; outlets from Reuters to Seeking Alpha echoed it.
Reorg, Not Retreat — Meta says many affected can land elsewhere inside the company; headcount impact could be muted.
Why it bites: This looks like the classic tech cycle:
aggressive talent raids during peak hype, then a tidy “efficiency” reset.
Meta isn’t abandoning AI; it’s consolidating power centers.
But the public headline is unavoidable:
the same industry promising to automate work is laying off the workers building the automation.
Eye-roll warranted. 🙄
