🍭 Teens vs. Chatbots, Nvidia at $5T 😳

Nvidia Hits $5T on chips and Character.AI pulled teen access

Good morning. Nvidia hit a $5T market cap by making and selling chips.

Can I do that by eating chips?

Let’s dig in. 👇

🍭 What’s Cookin’:

  • Character.AI ends open-ended chats for teens

  • Nvidia crosses $5T on AI chip dominance

  • Free AI course from DeepMind & UCL

  • Google AI Studio launches for builders

Character.AI
😳 Ends Open-Ended Chats For Teens.

The Bite: Character.AI will phase out open-ended chatbot conversations for users under 18, tapering daily access to zero by November 25.

The decision comes after lawsuits and public outcry following at least two teen suicides linked to prolonged chatbot conversations on its platform.

Instead of “AI companions,” teens will be pushed toward creation tools like collaborative storytelling, short videos, and character-driven scenes.

Age checks will lean on behavior signals, third-party verification, and, if needed, facial recognition and ID.

Snacks:

  • What’s Changing: Under-18s lose open-ended chats; access shrinks daily until zero by Nov 25.

  • Why Now: Prolonged chatbot conversations preceded lawsuits after at least two teen suicides.

  • New Lane: AvatarFX, Scenes, Streams, and a Community Feed turn chat time into content creation.

  • Gatekeeping: In-house signals + third-party checks, with facial/ID verification as a backstop.

  • Tradeoffs Acknowledged: CEO expects churn, apologizes to teens, and says the goal is safer creative experiences.

  • Line In The Sand: The company says open-ended chats aren’t the product to offer minors—period.

Why it Bites: This is either overdue responsibility or an admission that the system couldn’t be reliably controlled for minors.

It also invites new questions: do invasive age checks create fresh risks, and does swapping “talking with an AI” for “making content with an AI” meaningfully reduce harm or just repackage engagement?

Teens may migrate, but if this becomes industry standard, the center of gravity for youth AI might shift from conversation to creation.

AI Infrastructure
🤖 Nvidia Becomes the $5 Trillion “Picks & Shovels” Winner of AI

The Bite: Nvidia just became the first public company to hit a $5T market cap, powered by demand for the GPUs that train and run today’s AI.

Shares popped to roughly $210 in early trading, lifting the company past the milestone less than four months after crossing $4T.

Call it the gold rush where the toolmaker wins: data centers buy the chips, everyone else buys time.

Snacks:

  • Milestone: First ever to $5T, riding surging AI chip demand.

  • Fuel: GPUs remain the must-have part for training and inference at scale.

  • Momentum: Stock is up ~50% this year with new platforms and partnerships in the pipe.

  • Macro Nerves: Officials (Bank of England, others) are floating the b-word: bubble.

  • Counterpoint: Today’s AI spend is led by cash-rich firms with real revenue engines.

  • Our Ongoing Thread: Even tool kings face bottlenecks—HBM supply, packaging, networking, power, and data-center buildouts.

Why it bites: This is the clearest proof that “picks & shovels” is the trade of the AI era.

But tool booms can overshoot.

Warnings about an AI bubble are real and familiar.

The dot-com bubble burst; the internet didn’t.

If history rhymes, some exuberance gets wrung out, while foundational infrastructure (chips, power, networking) keeps compounding.
