Checkout Without Scanning Your Items 🛒
7-Eleven in Australia is teaming up with a company called Grabango to introduce a new way of shopping in some of their stores.
Instead of scanning items at the checkout, a special technology using cameras and smart algorithms will keep track of what people pick up, so they can just walk out when they're done - much like Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology.
This technology will be added to the 7-Eleven app, and they're planning to start it in about 10 stores by the end of next year.
Meaning, you won't have to scan items or stand in line to pay.
This change is part of 7-Eleven's efforts to make shopping easier and more modern for everyone.

Robots Are Ready To Recycle ♻️
Trash is a global issue we all contribute to, and despite our best efforts to recycle, only 16% of the world's solid waste actually gets recycled.
In the US, around 32% of garbage is recycled, and of those recycled materials only 80-95% make it through the entire process.
Why is that?
Recycling requires a complex system of collecting, sorting, cleaning, and processing, and humans play a substantial role in that.
Sure, there are screens and sensors to separate materials, but it’s not perfect. Nor are the employees hand-picking items from the conveyor belt.
Once again, we find ourselves looking toward computer-based systems to identify recyclable materials at superhuman speeds.
Using computer vision, machine learning, and robots to identify and sort recycled material, we can:
Improve the accuracy of sorting machines.
Reduce the need for human intervention.
Boost overall recovery rates.
If everything goes to plan, AI will slowly chip away at the billions of tons of recyclables that end up in landfills each year & in turn save us billions of dollars in valuable resources.

You Keep Saying ‘Computer Vision’ But What Is It? 👀
Computer vision is a field of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science that focuses on enabling computers and machines to interpret and understand visual information from the world, much like humans do.
Basically, we’re giving computers eyes, a brain, and a task to accomplish.
The goal of computer vision is to give machines the ability to perceive their surroundings, recognize objects, understand scenes, and extract meaningful information from visual data.
And this has a wide range of applications across various industries, including healthcare, automotive, manufacturing, entertainment, surveillance, agriculture, and more.
You’ve probably seen a good bit about computer vision when discussing China’s social credit system or a Tesla’s full self-driving capability.
Computer vision technologies are advancing rapidly, driven by improvements in machine learning, deep learning, and the availability of large datasets for training algorithms.
Transforming the way machines interact with the visual world and opening up new possibilities for automation and innovation.
If you think this is creepy…
